repress: this is the sort of record that could only have been made by someone with a vast amount of experience. producer nick dunton has a decade s worth of releases behind him, and it shows. sketches of my life veritably skips between electronic sounds and styles. it s deeply rooted in techno and electronica and specifically the clean futurisms of detroit s belleville three but steadfastly refuses to stick to one particular groove. once offers heady dub techno enriched by cascading piano figures, lost love bittersweet electro. fallen and abandoned virtues, meanwhile, evoke memories of teenage nights lost in the otherworldly sounds of warps pioneering artificial intelligence compilations.

this is the debut release on noir music from brazilian k.a.l.i.l. we have been working quite some time to perfect this first release from him on the label and give it the edge needed to stand out. after tons of road-testing and going back and forth with production ideas i am now happy to have 2 perfect tracks ready from k.a.l.i.l. that really showcase his super solid techno sound and production flair. “involved” (co-produced with any mello) is a quite simple trip with any’s spoken word in center of industrial elements wobling it and out. this track works really well in the clubs because of its on point minimalism, the high intensity stacatto synths and the catchy vocal line from any. it’s not easy to do big tracks without big basslines – but that’s what k.a.l.i.l. and any mello truely achieved with this one. “revolved” is a track i signed already last year and since then k.a.l.i.l. has been perfecting everything about the track from small details to bigger arrangement improvements. this track has that big bassline that sits right in your face. it also has the right build for those peaktime moments in the clubs. i have been playing “revolved” a lot over the past months and people go crazy for those big bass drops. we are honored to have another great producer join the noir music family and proud to have another belter of a release ready for you.

seth troxler & the martinez brothers’ tuskegee music welcomes chicago legend k- alexi shelby for a new ep that features some essential solo cuts as well as two great collaborations with tony lovlesss. k-alexi is a genuine chicago great. he’s been at the core of the scene since the eighties and releasing his raw grooves on dj international, trax and transmat, as well as his own k klassik label. he has recently remixed for seth troxler’s other label, say it play it, but is now back serving up the sort of engaging originals that have made him such an enduring star.

n our extremely talented artist pool we have the luxury of being able to work with local icelandic talent and for our 6th instalment in the lagaffe series we managed cook up a long awaited collaboration with a close friend and producer intr0beatz. intr0beatz has been known in the local music scene for quite some time and became one of the most iconic hip hop producers in iceland with the group forgotten lores. after the scene evolved and took changes intr0beatz reinvented himself as a house music producer. with intr0beatz you never go wrong. a long time hip-hop producer went housey on us, and he got the groove. house and old school hip-hop have a lot in common sampling and chopping old disco/soul tracks is the foundation of both. so this came naturally for him. the four-tracker includes the tracks dumpin (a1), mystery ride (a2), tapas (b1) and desco (b2).

one of detroits true talents today, amp fiddler joins forces with grammy winner louie vega hitting you with some funk deep house on vega records. amp fiddler is the quintessential singer / musician who has played in the seminal band parliament with george clinton, and has had his own band for years now. louie has always wanted to work with amp since first meeting him at the montreaux jazz festival when amp and his band and elements of life were on the same bill on the worldwide stage. finally coming together, amp reaches out to louie for a remix and the result is a beautiful soulful song written and produced by amp fiddler. the remixes by louie vega combining deep house sounds with the funk synths played by axel tosca. there’s one version where amp did more lead vocal overdubs and adlibs, as well a funktified synth solo version which gets immediate response when played. the four versions on 12” vinyl lend itself to different moods and are sure to bring you a dancefloor or house party on fire!

null+void recordings label head kirsti has been a fan of dead sound since his first release in 2010 - no faith - on net label acroplane and following him avidely since. for anyone unfamiliar with the dead sound he’s historically found his releases land on perc trax and rebekah’s decoy two of the uk’s most uncompromising techno artists labels respectively.

dext recordings has reached it’s landmark 10th release, and we now enter our next phase with this very special 2 track ep from a vital part of our label: bodyjack. aside from his collaboration with special request at the end of last year, this is chris’s first new music under his bodyjack alias since the summer of 2016 (his “cobra effect ep” for us). his time away has helped him refocus, and its clearly paid off “nataraja” (hindu for “lord of the dance”) is one of those tracks we can’t actually describe, but it’sbodyjack on rare form. his signature quirky percussion & synthwork is stripped down more than on his previous work, but this is one works in so many situations, we can’t wait to hear what you think. on the flip, “tandava” (the name given to the dance of nataraja!), is a peak-time detroit bass style workout with booming drops and razor sharp edits aimed right at the floor.

second proper studio album originally released in 1976 by the king of turkish psych/anatolian rock. recorded in belgium with help from session musicians related to placebo, janko nilovic and mad unity among others, nick the chopper features lyrics in english, huge orchestral sections, and re-arrangements of many of the melodies from his masterpiece 2023. bar&#305,&#351, spent his whole life trying to communicate to the wider world outside turkey. this was his last attempt at doing so with an album before turning to a travel television show to visit faraway places and talk to the young and old, one on one. every production trick of the glorious 1970s was deployed to push bar&#305,&#351, up the european charts, and now they can push him right into your brain instead.

following fine scalpel-focused outings from ltj and les inferno, many of many aliases stefano de gama returns to samosa with a trio of subtly tooled-up disco edits. a-side -son of slave- sees him join together bits of soulful disco-era classics -slide- and -son of slide- to form a tasty new whole. while heavily compressed and noticeably chunkier than either of the original tracks, de gama s version is loose enough to please those who think edits should merely be dj-friendly re-arrangements. turn to the flipside for the lolloping, low-slung afro-funk goodness of -1972- and the throbbing peak-time disco celebration of filter-sporting closer -star buk-. this too boasts booming drums and bass, but also enough musical looseness to avoid the usual disco-house pitfalls.

the very first release of 2018 from eureka!, is the well known parisian sampling master s3a (sampling as an art) with his perfect definition between underground quality emotional house music and dancefloor efficiency. he released from lazare house records, hold youth, concrete music, local talk, phonogramme and faces and with his background culture based on a solid knowledge of house music, soul, funk made him one of the most promising house artist of the french scene. mountain charr contains 3 tracks in completely different styles. doop doop is definitely a sound of s3a, with characteristic vocal cut up by adding powerful horn section and melodic piano loop. emotional m1 is classic yet warm and cosy low deep groove track that is playable regardless of a time or place, from lounge to dancefloor. to complete the package we have denials , a more down tempo offering, but its melody is fascinating and yes, sexy. this ep definitely brings you his predominant sense of sampling.

in the era of the brand, kutiman is an anomaly. a musician who’s a video artist who’s a producer who’s an animator who’s also the unwilling star of one of israel’s most successful recent documentaries, his every record contrasts with whatever it was that came before. but that’s fundamental to his appeal: no one, not even him, really knows what to expect next. unsurprisingly, therefore, ‘don’t hold onto the clouds’ is no different, which means it’s like nothing he’s ever done. most artists would acknowledge this by working under pseudonyms, but kutiman is – yes, you’ve guessed it – different again. “if i changed my name every time i wanted to do something new,” he laughs, “i think i’d have too many names!”

it’s been a hot minute since the tropical sounds of mo kolours have graced the airwaves, so it’s with great pleasure that we see him return to 22a via a choice selection of cuts presented on a limited 7” vinyl, with original artwork designed by the man himself! this release is limited to 300 copies so don’t sleep!

after establishing himself with rough but emotive house as rimbaudian and jungle as birds of sweden, he unveiled his dj seinfeld alias to the world, first with underground hit single u, then with his time spent away from u album on lobster fury in november 2017. it was a post break-up love letter to the dance floor with heart-on-sleeve emotions colouring the dusty and analogue house grooves. acclaim came in from far and wide, with everyone from rolling stone to pitchfork fawning over its heart swelling nostalgia and melancholic immediacy. jakobsson approached his dj-kicks with the intention of representing all the things that made him fall in love with dance music more than a decade ago, as well as showing some of the progression that has occurred in that time and reflecting the simultaneous fear of leaving something safe behind as well as the excitement of venturing into unknown territories, musically and emotionally.

this hampshire & foat project should not come as too much of a surprise to those familiar withgreg& warren s music, influenced heavily by not just jazz but the library sound of the 60s and 70s along with film soundtracks from the same golden era.greg& warren are avid collectors of this music,gregsends me links night and day to lps he has picked up digging on his travels. this constant search sends him down new musical pathways and often sparks a whole new concepts for projects. warren andgregare both fiercely creative talented individuals which means we have to keep them working, a challenge for us all, but the music rewards the effort many times over. we had talked for a long time about doing a library style lp (somethinggregis very passionate about) so during different recording sessionsgreg& warren started laying down various tracks with a view to the lp we have here. side one is 5 tracks in very distinct styles, musical paintings for the big screen. the vast sound of the japanese influenced jasmine, the spaghetti western melancholy of mariposa lily, the call to action that is antonio s theme, the breezy vintage sports car in the sun that coastal drivepaints, and lost in nostalgia, a late night poirotesk piece. side 2 is a classic library suite, whichgregdescribes as a detective s theme with different variations on the motifs.

tokyo’s finest techno/house label vis rev set owned by tresvibes soundsystem released its 4th ep “vrs004 ? nord”. featuring essential but minimal structured tracks by vieux renard, as known as montreal’s guillaume coutu dumont. this title is his very first attempt as guillaume’s latest solo endeavor which he cited that it was time for him to return to his den and begin crafting his next magical shenanigans.

ground is an osaka native, but his soul is truly that of a nomad, traversing the planet, befriending the kindred spirits found in humans, animals and plants. he is exceptionally receptive to the beauty in all that surrounds him—the incidental music of a busy city street, the orchestrated chaos of a scrambling radio, the syncopated grace of a migrating flock of birds, the simplicity of an isolated hand clap—and as his map continuously unfolds, he accumulates a vast catalogue of visceral tools to complex musically recount his experiences. sunizm is a cross section of the artist’s process—an array of complex microcosms overlapping to comprise a thematic whole—gathering field recordings, found instrumentation, jagged electronics, and synthesized chanting, to be woven into a dense narrative that appears both obsessively constructed and divinely improvised. with each consecutive track, the artist gradually constructs hypnotic patterns that 1-up the mind as it struggles to break free from a seduction of loops, steadily intensifying until reaching an apex of sound collage so cerebral that the listener might consider a post-album shower. but alas, the fourth quarter releases a bit of pressure, our gobs still lay smacked but there is a warm confidence as the psychedelic trial delivers us home to nod out. dear humans, animals and plants, ground and the esp institute present, sunizm.

anyone who’s followed maurice aymard’s galaktika label over the years will be all too aware of the imprint’s leaning toward eclectic sounds. it’s an ethos that mirrored in the work of aymard himself and regardless of whether he’s turning his hand to tech house sounds or more straight-up techno jams, his is a way of working that’s endeared him to many over the years. his latest is a case in point. the 75th chapter in the galaktika discography, the into the night ep serves up an array of sounds that are enticing as they are upbeat and intriguing. getting us underway is the sounds of the title track. an unfurling beast of a track that’s loaded with dramatic tension throughout, it’s an eerie cut that’s characterised by its clever bells and some incessant percussion. a full on track that’s not to be handled lightly, it’s repetitive nature and sporadic vocal charms is indicative of levon vincent at his best. ‘shinning’, a more progressive cut, follows after. another track that’s notable for the suspense that lingers throughout, it serves up a nice stylistic alternative to what’s arrived before. aymard then goes all out on the frankly astounding sounds of ‘rage’. a propulsive gem of the type that sees the producer greatly rewarded for trying something that bit different, it’s a special sort of track that takes on various tones throughout but always stays captivating. seeing us out soon after is eduardo de la calle’s remix of the latter. the cadenza man is well versed in all things deep and dextrous, and his interpretation serves up a fitting example of his talents. although it starts on a melodic tip, it too soon brings the listener on a thoroughly captivating but unexpected journey. much like the rest of this ep, de la calle’s remix is full of surprises from the off.

songs about the unity of sudan, peace between muslims and christians and the fate of war orphans, backed by grooves equally taking influence from arabic sounds, american funk as well as neighboring ethiopia. kamal keila was among the first artist we met in sudan during our two trips to khartoum and omdurman last year. he is one of the key figures of the sudanese jazz scene that was a vital part of the musical culture in sudan from the mid 1960s until the islamist revolution in the late 1980s. when we meet kamal he luckily presented us with two mold covered studio reels. each tape included five tracks. one with english lyrics and another with arabic ones. musically you can hear the influence of neighboring ethiopia much more than on other sudanese recordings of the time, as well as references to fela and american funk and soul. his lyrics, at least when he sings in english which gave him more freedom from censorship, are very political. a brave statement in the political climate of sudan of the last decades, preaching for the unity of sudan, peace between muslims and christians and singing the blues about the fate of war orphans called shmasha. a note inside one of the boxes specified the track titles, durations and the fact that the sessions were recorded on the 12th of august 1992. both sessions stand as a hearable testament how kamal keila stuck to a sound aesthetic from decades ago, while incorporating current events into his lyrics. kamal keilas album is the first in a series of releases covering the sudanese jazz scene on habibi funk. be on the lookout for albums by the scorpions and sharhabeel coming soon.

* wislov might be a new signee to knitebreed, but he has been releasing material for years, and the spanish (not russian) maestro is already known around the world for his awesome breakbeat creations. it was only a matter of time before a label snapped him up, and he is a producer easily capable of dropping huge tunes in both dark and lighter stsyles. this ep showcases his talent, with four tracks specifically designed to compliment the knitebreed sound while carving his own niche into the label

loco dice has unveiled his darkly eclectic album ‘love letters, a 15-track embodiment of his diverse production range. featuring the latest single ‘were alive, the most highly anticipated record of his recent sets. dices third studio album after ‘7 dunham place and ‘underground sound suicide sees him reflecting on his musical influences and connections to dusseldorf and beyond. the album is packed with the producers typically forceful tones, which blur the lines between house and techno. utillising the bristling sounds and smooth drum beats, dices love letters album serves as an aural embodiment of the tones which make his sound so unique. throughout ‘love letters, dice uses his own vocals more frequently than on previous albums, which makes the production both trippier and more personal, representing past and present.

taking on a true trance classic and a personal favorite of his, len faki takes us back to the golden era of big melodies and early raves, sharing two very distinct interpretations of firedance by odyssee of noises, the prolific production outfit helmed by ralf hildenbeutel. originally released in 1994 on legendary label eye q, this track marked a special period for faki, when he was fully immersing himself into the scene, and accompanied him through his most formative times as a dancer and a becoming dj.brimming with the iconic elation of those nights, side a keeps with the emotive theme of the original‘s sunrise version, tweeking only slightly to cater for the needs of these days‘ dancers. re-shaping the classic to match modern productions for it to be mixed with current bangers, faki packs the tune‘s anthemic appeal into a propulsive ride down memory lane…

the second release on werk is signed by j. manuel. the young producer has been polishing his sound ever since he first started experimenting with electronic music gear as a child. his commitment to following his own instincts rather than conforming to what was being played around him resulted in a very different aesthetic to the one commonly associated with berlin techno. drive fiction ep stands proof of that. all 3 tracks push boundaries in their own style, that being perhaps the strongest link between them. the title track -drive fiction- presents old-school leads over broken beats and electro inspired pads while the a2 -falling in sine circulation- is arguably the most dance floor oriented track, with a pounding 4×4 kick drum and an alarming 3/4 sine wave slaying the high frequencies. closing the ep is b-side -softer-, a melodic track with long, undulating pads that is nonetheless driven by a powerful rave-inspired beat. with its second release, werk comes to confirm the path it seeks to travel through both parties and releases: that of the sounds less rigid. gritty, wild and presenting a wide range of rhythmic patterns, drive fiction ep is a defying record. challenge accepted?

with 2018 marking a quarter of a century for positiva being at the summit of the dance industry, the label have enlisted the work of both paul morrell, and latroit, to sprinkle modern magic on the timeless record. british producer and xxl resident dj paul morrell laces his own mix with euphoric, high-tempo chords and a floorfilling breakdown, a stark contrast to the deeper, gritty interpretation offered by 2018 grammy award winning american producer and composer, latroit, who added: - as the rush comes was obviously one of the stand-out tracks of the decade, and it was amazing to get my hands on that vocal. i ve also known dave dresden (one third of motorcycle) for years before this came out and it was great to reconnect and finally work with him creatively after all this time. the vinyl features 3 remixes of as the rush comes by latroit, paul morrell and dash berlin.

frits wentink s bobby donny label welcomes reykjavík producer felix leifur for more lush house explorations across four new cuts. the producer last released on this label in 2017 and his new one finds him again exploring deep and organic grooves, rough drums and jazzy pads. the tarleton appreciation club has real, live sounding drums making for a spaced out house cut coloured with dreamy pads and muffled vocal samples that have an aching beauty. parts is a brilliantly jazzy jam with bright chord vamps, wooden hits and clipped vocals making for a track somewhere between the styles of moodymann and max graef. robbi is another atmospheric track with pads and intimate melodies lingering in the air above choppy drum work that makes you want to wiggle. closing things down is juledreng, another perfectly roughed up bit of house with saturated chords and tons of reverb drawing you into its cosy little world.

johannes albert is a producer as diverse as they come. comfortable across all sub genres of dance music from deep house to italo disco, in italy they call him giovanni alberto. hes been praised by the likes bicep, gerd janson, lauer and the keinemusik crew, and he’s only just getting started. the dancing plague ep is summer music for summer people. opening with the hefty, wonky basslines of the club ready, tpts. gravy train is a combination of grooving bass-lines and disco drums, the end result is a solid dancefloor stomper. the uniquely titled pachanga follows, abundant with nu disco and italo references. this is a real summer track, as the sun sets in the city ahead of a huge party, the one that will entice the shyest of dancers to move. keeping with the off the cuff track names, the ep finishes with the dusty, sun tinged rainbow pan. over the past ten years the needwant mantra has been to push the very best in new talent, having provided the platform for the likes of kiwi, the mekanism, maxxi soundsystem, the revenge and many more.

the guys on this compilation are playful composers and appear to engage in various behaviors for sheer enjoyment, such as making waterslides and then sliding on them into the water. they may also find and play with small stones. their record is based on a myth where naya le loup shapeshift into beautiful women wearing stones-patterned clothing. if a human attempts to speak to him, he will answer nao and then answer copo, and if anybody asks him anything, he say cryptic things like blizzaga.

the saver flex ep offers up no less than four seriously catchy house jams. blue shoe kicks off the proceedings with some funked up percussion, which immediately shows that kolja s background as a drummer has taught him a thing or two about groove. a looping organ lick, some little shouts in the background, big stabs and a massive kick drum push the track forward. cleverly arranged breakdowns allow for a couple of breathers to keep the party action going throughout. moving on to lax wax , we ease up a little with a lighter beat on top of which filtered piano chords, a live bass and just a touch of guitar set the perfect mood for an organ solo that simply oozes summer vibes. buggel runter rutschen keeps the mood nice and sunny while adding more punch with snappy kicks and snares – a hugely danceable foundation for these guys to show us what is so great about 70s and 80s disco and funk that these styles are amongst their biggest influences. you had better ask a german what kagghaufen means, we don t want to put you off your dinner. we hope it will be just as tasty as this track is with its pounding, straight beat, which is counterpointed by bouncy congas, funky vocal cuts, beautiful pads and healthy dose of squelchy acid for good measure. all of this is effortlessly combined to round off the ep in style.

dutch label field records is back with another special album project, this time from japanese producer ena aka yu asaeda. bridge is an introspective soundtrack for a documentary also called bridge - out this spring - which is about the dejima bridge, a reconstructed symbol of the dutch-japanese trading history in nagasaki, japan. the album finds the producer stepping outside of his usual remit of dark ambient and experimental music, and instead comprises ten shorter tracks that touch on abstract and rhythmic sounds that define the essence of japanese culture. although he has worked with the director before, this is ena s first original sound track and finds him freely inspired by the movie and heading in exciting and unknown directions. hugely atmospheric throughout, there is hypnotic repetition of sounds, strange audio design and a mixture of melancholic moods with more dreamy synths. sometimes gloopy rhythms gently ripple beneath soothing harmonies and at others times a micro-rhythm appears through the constantly shifting and evolving found sound loops. it s a compelling and unusual album that seamlessly mixes human emotions with a mechanical sense of industry.

conforce is back on his home label with four more of his richly detailed and hugely atmospheric techno tracks. its his first release on delsin since latest album autonomous back in 2017 and finds him in typical underwater techno territory. celestion kicks things off with smeared pads and rubbery, dubby drums instantly setting a hypnotic groove. the serene ambience makes it feel like youre deep down in the ocean and various deft sonic details drift by the keep things on the move. vessel is another fathom deep track with supple drums undulating on the sea bed as beams of synth light things up from above. theres melancholy in the pads that brings a rueful vibe, while zephyr is more troubled and turbulent thanks to the wet, gurgling synths and darker bass sounds. aerial rounds things out with heavyweight, rumbling kicks and ominous energy that keeps you on edge, despite the presence of beautifully celestial keys. as ever , it all makes for an absorbing trip.

lou courtney recorded one of the all time great 70’s soul albums in 1974 with the jerry ragavoy co-produced ‘i’m in need of love’. the 10 great songs are expertly arranged by leon pendarvis backed with superb instrumentation and topped with wonderful expressive soulful vocal performances from lou courtney. the album includes the modern soul gems ‘what do you want me to do’, ‘i don’t want nobody else’, ‘i’m in need of love’ and ‘the common broken heart’. the philly inspired up tempo cuts ‘i will if you will’ and ‘somebody new is lovin on you’ plus there are some great ballads. essential for any 70’s soul fans.
